Press Release: Foundation Announces Energy Forum

Clinton Foundation forum to focus on energy policy and its effect on security, development, and climate change. 

The relationship between energy policy and security, development and climate change will be the subject of a Clinton Foundation forum to be held on Monday, December 6, in New York City.

Former President Bill Clinton will attend the forum and deliver brief introductory remarks in the morning and the keynote address at the end of the day.

The forum, entitled “New Thinking on Energy Policy: Meeting the Challenges of Security, Development, and Climate Change,” will be held at the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University. The forum will examine how the global community manages its existing resources; innovative ideas to meet future energy needs; and the profound environmental, economic, security and political consequences energy policy has on developed and developing nations alike.

Participants include: Carol Browner, former EPA Administrator; Dr. John Deutch, former Director, CIA; Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic; Dr. John Holdren, Science, Technology & Public Policy Director, Harvard University; Senator Joe Lieberman, U.S Senator from Connecticut; Jessica Mathews, President of The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Republic of South Africa; Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Chair, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; Roger Sant, Co-Founder, AES Corporation; Vijay Vaitheeswaran, Chief Energy Correspondent, The Economist; Senator Timothy E. Wirth, former U.S Senator from Colorado and President of The United Nations Foundation and Better World Foundation; James D. Wolfensohn, President, The World Bank Group.

Beginning in 2002, the Clinton Foundation has hosted forums to focus on critical issues of the day, including “Islam in America in a Global World,” and “Globalization: Progress and Paradox.”

The Clinton Foundation works to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. To accomplish this mission, the Foundation currently focuses its work in four areas: health security, especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS; economic empowerment; racial, religious and ethnic reconciliation; and leadership development and citizen service.
