Statement from President Clinton on the Passing of Justice John Paul Stevens

Over the course of his remarkable 99 years, John Paul Stevens served our country and our Constitution with honor and humility, with an open mind and a willingness to evolve. In majority or dissent, he rendered his opinions with clarity and conviction, often giving voice to those too long unheard and reminding us that America’s promise of equality requires the same rules for all of us in voting, and in the exercise of our civil liberties and civic responsibilities.  He made our union more perfect.
