Read to Lead: Constitution Day

The Clinton Presidential Center’s Read to Lead Series is all about helping young learners become great readers, leaders, and active citizens. We will explore some interesting topics, like how to be a good member of your community and learn more about yourself and the culture and history of our neighbors.

Join us for a very special Read to Lead: Constitution Day edition, where you can create your very own family constitution! Gather with other families to learn about the significance of the Constitution and the principles it upholds. Through guided activities, stories, and discussions, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your family values, goals, and responsibilities, and collaborate to draft a personalized family constitution. This event fosters meaningful conversations and strengthens family bonds as you define the rights, duties, and shared values that will guide your household. Come join us and embark on this empowering journey of self-governance and unity! 

This enriching event is free to the public. Children attending the event may tour the Clinton Center’s exhibits, including “Dinosaur Explorer,” for free with a paid adult admission. Join us on September 2 for fun, learning, and celebration!

Book 1: “The Constitution for Babies” by DK Publishing

Take a trip back in time and discover how the government of the United States was established in this fun board book for young kids. The Constitution for Babies introduces young children to the Founding Fathers and their mission to create a new country where no single person had too much power over everyone else. Little readers are guided through their journey, from the founding of the nation in 1776, to the creation of the US Constitution, and the amendments in the years that followed.

Book 2: “We the Kids: The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States” by David Catrow

A long time ago some smart guys wrote the Preamble to the Constitution. You have probably read it before, but do you know what it means? And did it ever make you laugh? Now it will! Perfect for inspiring discussion in classrooms and around kitchen tables, this fun-filled and cheerfully illustrated look at the Preamble provides an accessible introduction to America’s founding ideals for citizens of all ages.
