Growing Charitable Giving Past the 2% GDP Ceiling

Summary

In 2025, GoFundMe, Inc committed to launch a series of product innovations and collaborations with nonprofit partners in order to unlock an additional $120 million in charitable giving annually in the United States over the next five years that will, in turn, impact more than 100,000,000 people. These innovations will include the launch of GoFundMe Giving Funds that will enable greater giving among Donor Advised Funds as well as the scaling up and greater deployment of GoFundMe-challenges and AI tools that will yield increased donations for nonprofit organizations through targeted public awareness raising and more effective fundraising campaigns. Through this commitment, GoFundMe aims to play a key role in raising the charitable giving ceiling beyond 2% of GDP in the US by 2030.

Approach

GoFundMe aims to unlock an additional $120 million in charitable giving annually over the next five years in the United States through product innovation and collaborations with nonprofit partners. Through the launch of GoFundMe Giving Funds, GoFundMe will enable additional funding sources, namely Donor Advised Funds, to drive more charitable contributions that will impact the lives of more than 100,000,000 people.

In additional, GoFundMe will scale existing and launch new social challenges to yield increased donations for nonprofits by capitalizing on milestone moments.

Finally, GoFundMe will further leverage its set of AI tools, already utilized more than 50 million times, to help individuals effectively create, launch, and manage fundraisers, drive more effective fundraisers resulting in more help delivered, and help nonprofits personalize campaigns to meet goals with tools like Intelligent Ask Amounts.

Action Plan

2025-2026: Launch Phase Launch Giving Funds in the U.S. in June 2025 and expand features to enable additional funding sources (DAF-to-DAF contributions, recurring contributions and additional features) in Q4 of 2025. Launch new products in November 2025 to drive Giving Fund accounts and to expand charitable giving.

Continue work into Q1 of 2026 to drive discovery of nonprofits within Giving Funds to encourage donations to nonprofits by promoting relevant nonprofits during crises and moments like Mental Health Awareness Month.

Launch/scale social challenges in partnership with the American Cancer Society (ACS) before expanding to additional nonprofit partners. Launch GoFundMe-led challenges in Q1/Q2 of 2026 so nonprofits can utilize GoFundMe’s brand and technology to drive more donors and donations.

Launch AI tools beginning in Q4 of 2025

2027-2030: Growth and Expansion Phase Throughout 2027-2030, GoFundMe will expand the features and markets where Giving Funds and AI tools are available, while securing additional nonprofit partnerships to expand social challenges, and launching new innovations that bring in additional donors.
