The Task at Hand: Combating the COVID-19 Pandemic

This session will focus on how young people, health practitioners, and health systems can most effectively respond to this global emergency, while supporting each other during this crisis. It will explore ways to increase production of and access to testing, personal protective equipment for medical personnel, and ventilators for health facilities; raise public awareness of COVID-19 and combat the spread of misinformation that has emerged; and maintain mental health and well-being while strengthening communities of support during this time of social distancing.

COVID-19 and Beyond: Building Resilience to Global Health Challenges

This session will focus on the wide-ranging impacts that COVID-19 has had on all aspects of society, including broader economic, healthcare, and education systems. It will also explore lessons learned from government, private, and nonprofit sectors as we look to better prepare for future global health challenges. This panel will discuss ways to share best practices for remote learning and mitigate the impacts of school closures by ensuring students have access to essential services including meals, housing, and internet access; strengthen international cooperation and support of public health systems around the world, drawing on lessons learned to protect against future pandemics; and support efforts to bolster the economy, strengthen critical infrastructure, and adjust workplace standards so that we are better able to adapt to global health challenges in the future.

This session will discuss the disproportionate impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on communities of color—highlighting what we can learn from why this happened and protecting vulnerable communities in the future; inspiring young people to advocate for equal access to healthcare and economic opportunity; and creating opportunities to work together to address COVID-19 in under-resourced nations to help them combat the virus in populations with economic instability and lack of access to healthcare services.
