Over the course of the institute, teachers will explore the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights and consider how these founding documents have been interpreted over time. Teachers will examine Constitutional amendments ratified during the first 125 years following the Declaration of Independence. Sessions will include discussions on research methods and teaching strategies with an emphasis on locating and incorporating primary source materials. The approach will include traditional and social history; material culture and object-based learning; and national, regional, and local history relevant to Arkansas teachers.

The ACEI curriculum is designed to serve Arkansas teachers, grades 4-12. Participation is free and lunch is provided daily. Lodging is available for a limited number of participants who live more than 50 miles from Little Rock. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm May 23, 2025. Applicants will be notified of selection decisions on or before May 31, 2025. Additional information will be provided upon acceptance to ACEI 2025.

Arkansas teachers who attend the full institute will receive 30 hours of ADE-approved professional development credit.
