Updates from the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) community – including efforts to improve maternal mortality in Kenya; a CGI Fellow supporting victims of sexual assault on college campuses; USA Today reporting on the work of the Confess Project to improve mental health; the launch of the CGI 2024 program; and more. 

 

 USA Today reports on community-based approaches to improve mental health 

The Confess Project of America (TCPA) is a national program that works to facilitate community-based mental health approaches in marginalized and underserved communities. TCPA committed in 2022 to training barbers and beauticians to be mental health advocates for their clients.  With mental health a growing crisis for Black communities nationwide, programs like these lean into the natural flow of sharing inherent in barbershops and salons, giving barbers and stylists tools to care for their communities. CGI Fellow Ciera Blehm’s mission to give power back to victims of campus sexual assault 

CGI Fellow Ciera Blehm sat down with HerCampus to discuss her work as the co-founder of the Survivor Fund Hub, a confidential and trauma-informed fund that works to provide financial compensation to college students who have experienced sexual assault. Read more. 

 

Bridging the transportation gap at the local level 

In 2023, Sostento committed to providing free Uber rides to patients, providers and volunteers of free and charitable clinics in order to increase access to critical healthcare services for individuals living below the poverty line. To date, Uber’s partnerships with over 4,000 healthcare organizations around the world are helping to bridge the transportation gap at the local level, ensuring that a lack of transportation no longer stands in the way of someone’s health.  Watch Sara’s story.

Last month, CGI launched the program for the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2024 Annual Meeting. CGI 2024 will focus on “What’s Working,” accelerating solutions that are working now, and emphasizing the responsibility we all have as citizens to take action. The featured participants are leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who have demonstrated success in advancing solutions to our greatest global challenges.
