Nadia’s Initiative opens new safe space for survivors of genocide and sexual violence
Nadia’s Initiative, founded by global human rights activist Nadia Murad, is a nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding communities in crisis and advocating for survivors of sexual violence. NI recently opened the NI Women’s Center in the Sinjar region of Iraq, a first of its kind space that offers educational opportunities, vocational training, legal aid, mental health care, and more. The opening of this landmark center marks the completion of NI’s 2024 Commitment to Action launched at the CGI 2024 Annual Meeting. See how the NI Women’s Center is making an impact here.
Partners in Equity co-founder talks building generational wealth
Wilson Lester, co-founder and managing partner of Partners in Equity (PIE), was recently on the Black Information Network discussing his company’s mission to bridge the gaps in capital access for Black and Brown business owners, and his goals to invest in businesses with staying power and established communities. PIE was a part of CGI’s 2024 Greenhouse cohort, a community of mission-driven startups, companies, and other enterprises that are working to promote climate resilience, women and girls’ equality, economic inclusion, humanitarian response, and health equity around the world. USofCare launches new postpartum tracking tool
Southern states report higher rates of postpartum depression, fetal mortality, and fewer perinatal health workers than other states, according to a newly launched interactive map from the United States of Care. USofCare’s tool, which allows visitors to see a side-by-side comparison of postpartum care by state, is a part of The 100 Weeks Project, a Commitment to Action launched at CGI’s 2024 Annual Meeting to improve postpartum coverage for women by 2030. Grist announces new tool to see how cuts are affecting climate projects
Infrastructure and climate-related projects are facing disruptions due to recent funding freezes. To give readers more clarity on what cuts will impact them, CGI media partner Grist developed an online tool that combines multiple data sources to reveal where more than $300 billion of promised funds have been awarded across the United States. Search ZIP code, city names, and other locations to uncover how the cuts are impacting local projects close to home. Check out the tool here.
New overdose aid kits installed in Wisconsin
Public Health Sauk County partnered with the Clinton Foundation to install Overdose Aid Kits in the North Freedom community at Highlander Laundry and the North Freedom Community Center. Overdose Aid Kits or OAKs are metal boxes that include narcan nasal spray, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose; breathing masks; instructions for administering Narcan in an emergency; Fentanyl test strips and more. UNMUTED new campaign shines a light on gender-based violence
CGI commitment-maker UNMUTED Inc. launched a new impact campaign, in partnership with Picture Motion, to raise awareness and combat violence against women and girls. The three-part docu-series follows eight women – including Constance Wu, Marie Avgeropoulos, Torrey DeVitto and more – as they address global forms of gender-based violence and tell stories of overcoming insurmountable odds.
