Event is second in series focusing on women’s mental health

BOSTON – In an effort to spur innovation around women’s health, the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters Initiative—in conjunction with Atelier Ace, Jawbone, the Innovation Hub at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, MIT Hacking Medicine, and media partner SELF Magazine—will host the second Women’s Health Codeathon on November 7-9. Following the success of last year’s health-based Codeathons, the Women’s Health Codeathon series challenges female developers and designers to design and build original apps around three key areas: nutrition, mental health, and physical activity. Female leaders from the technology, innovation, and health fields will mentor participants and serve as judges on final presentations.

This codeathon incorporates healthy-living principles throughout the event, including nutritious food options provided by Sweetgreen and stretch and exercise led by Equinox. All participants will receive an UP by Jawbone Fitness Tracker to track their sleep and steps during the weekend.

The Codeathon will be held at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and focus on utilizing technology and digital platforms to advance women’s mental health. During the series’ first event, held in New York City in August 2014, coders developed apps focusing on women’s nutrition.

Speakers include Paula Johnson, M.D., Executive Director, Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology, and Chief of the Women’s Health Division, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Eric Braverman, CEO, Clinton Foundation; Kyra Bobinet, M.D., M.P.H., CEO of engagedIN. Judges for the competition include Lesley Solomon, Executive Director, Innovation Hub at Brigham & Women’s Hospital; Emily Hackel, External Relations Manager, McKinsey & Co.; Jess Kadar, Principal Product Manager, Iora Health; Gina Vild, Associate Dean for Communications and External Relations and Chief Marketing Officer, Harvard Medical School; and Dr. Gail Saltz, psychiatrist and health correspondent.

Members of the winning team will receive a MINI JAMBOX by Jawbone and the opportunity to bring their winning prototype to market with the help of the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters Initiative, Jawbone, and Ace Hotel.

The public is invited to attend final presentations at the Shapiro Conference Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on Sunday, November 9th at 4:00 PM, after which the winning team will be announced.
