Ace Hotel, Jawbone, SELF Magazine, and UCLA Business of Science Center partner with Clinton Foundation;
Event is third in series focusing on women’s physical activity

LOS ANGELESAs part of its ongoing effort to address key women’s health issues through technological innovation, the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters Initiative will host the third Women’s Health Codeathon on January 16-18. This event will be the last in the Women’s Health Codeathon series, which challenges developers and designers to build original, functional apps around three key areas: nutrition, mental health, and physical activity.

Following the success of the series’ first two events—held in New York City in August and in Boston in November—this final installment will continue to bring together female leaders from the technology, innovation, and health fields to serve as mentors to participants and as judges on final presentations.

The Codeathon will be held at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles and will focus on harnessing the power of technology and digital platforms to enhance women’s access to physical activity.

Incorporating healthy-living principles for participants throughout the event, the Codeathon will feature nutritious food options provided by LA Chapter at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles and stretch and exercise led by Equinox. In addition, all participants will receive an UP by Jawbone™ activity tracker to track their sleep and steps during the weekend.

Speakers and judges include Suzanne D’Amato, Executive Editor, SELF; Tamara Horwich, Co-Director, UCLA Women's Cardiovascular Center; Jessica Matthews, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at Miramar College and Senior Health & Fitness Expert for the American Council on Exercise; Rica Rodman, Executive Director, Wasserman Foundation; Maggie Vessey, Track Star and Designer; and Karol Watson M.D., Director, UCLA Women's Cardiovascular Center.

Members of the Codeathon’s winning team will receive a MINI JAMBOX by Jawbone and the opportunity to bring their winning prototype to market with the help of the Clinton Foundation’s Health Matters Initiative, Jawbone, and Ace Hotel.

The public is invited to attend final presentations at the Ace Hotel Los Angeles on Sunday, January 18 at 4:00 PM, after which the winning team will be announced. If you are interested in covering this event, or have questions for the Clinton Health Matters Initiative or our partner organizations, please email press@clintonfoundation.org.

Just after the Codeathon, on January 25-27, the Clinton Foundation will host the fourth annual Health Matters Activation Summit at the Renaissance Esmeralda Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California. The Summit will showcase what leaders from various sectors—business, technology, sports, and philanthropy—are doing to contribute to the health and wellness of people throughout the United States.
