Four Years In: The CGI Community Continues to Support the People of Ukraine
Last month, the CGI community convened as part of the Ukraine Action Network. These leaders are in business, government, and civil society and are working to meet the urgent needs in Ukraine amid the invasion by Russia, while laying the groundwork for the country’s long-term rebuilding and resilience.
The Ukraine Action Network was launched at the 2023 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting by Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton and First Lady Olena Zelenska. Since its inception, the Network has grown five times in size, mobilized significant financial commitments, and engaged more than 20 organizations in Commitments to Action.
“We want to underscore what you’re doing, but also look for more new ways to work together to help Ukraine and to help move to the future that you have fought for and that you so well deserve,” Secretary Clinton told the participants of the convening.
Ukraine remains in an active, high-intensity war following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, with ongoing fighting across eastern and southern frontlines. Russia occupies roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, while the conflict has created a major and sustained humanitarian crisis, with over 10 million people in need of assistance and millions displaced internally or as refugees abroad. Overall, the situation remains fluid and volatile, with no resolution in sight and both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term recovery challenges continuing at scale.
Through the Ukraine Action Network, partners have advanced commitments spanning humanitarian aid, infrastructure rebuilding, economic development, and support for displaced populations. The Clinton Global Initiative will continue to convene leaders and drive measurable action in support of Ukraine’s future.
In addition to partners, CGI was honored to have Ambassador Olga Stefanishyna from the Embassy of Ukraine to the United States join the convening and is grateful for both her and the embassy’s on-going engagement with UAN.
