MEDIA ADVISORY: Chelsea Clinton to Lead “Day of Action” for Palm Springs


The Clinton Foundation, City of Palm Springs, Desert Regional Medical Center, and Desert Healthcare District will mobilize volunteers for a Day of Action

Palm Springs, CA – On Sunday, January 25, the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation will bring together volunteers for a Day of Action, for the city of Palm Springs. Ahead of the fourth annual Health Matters Activation Summit at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California, the Day of Action will both complete community beautification projects and also provide helpful resources to increase the health and well-being of the community.

Led by Chelsea Clinton, the city of Palm Springs, Desert Regional Medical Center, and Desert Healthcare District, volunteers will participate in a service project at James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center in Palm Springs, planting an orchard and beautifying the surrounding park. Desert Regional Medical Center, Borrego Community Health Foundation, FIND Food Bank, Riverside County Department of Public Health and others are supporting a health fair. Borrego Community Health Foundation will conduct a dental screening clinic and Affordable Care Act sign-ups.

The day will begin with kick off remarks from Carolyn Caldwell, Chief Executive Officer of Desert Regional Medical Center; Mayor Steve Pougnet of Palm Springs, California; Kay Hazen, Board President of the Desert Healthcare District; and Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton.

Founded by Chelsea Clinton in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the Clinton Foundation Day of Action program seeks to create service opportunities and mobilize thousands of volunteers to give back to their communities. Since 2012, the Clinton Foundation has hosted 13 Days of Action in the U.S. and abroad, which have mobilized more than 4,100 volunteers donating more than 19,700 volunteer hours. In 2014, more than 1,600 volunteers participated in six Days of Action in the City of Coachella, California; Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Queens and Staten Island, New York; Little Rock, Arkansas; and New York, New York.
