Press Release: Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund Passes $1 Million in Online Donations

The Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, established to benefit the survivors of Hurrican Katrina, has raised over $1 million in online donations in approximately 24 hours. Former Presidents Bush and Clinton announced the Fund yesterday in Houston, TX.

“The immediate success of this Fund is demonstrative of the great generosity of the American people,” former President Bush said. “Recovery is going to take years; we need to help these Gulf Coast communities get back on their feet and we need to help their citizens get their lives back. With this Fund in place, we are on our way to doing this.”

When the Fund was announced, over 30 corporate donations were already pledged to the Hurricane relief and recovery effort. Over 5,000 individuals have made donations online, with an average gift of $188.00.

“I am so encouraged by the immense outpouring of donations from the American people,” President Clinton said. “The spirit of America is astounding and I am constantly amazed by the fortitude and generosity of the citizens of this great country. This is a disaster of enormous proportions and the recovery is going to be a long hard fight, but I am confident that we will be successful in helping these good people rebuild their homes and communities and reestablish their lives.”
