Press Release: Clinton Foundation Accepting Applications for Harlem Small Business Initiative

The initiative will provide free technical and management assistance to small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs

The Clinton Foundation announced today that it is accepting applications for the next class of the Harlem Small Business Initiative (SBI). The SBI provides urban small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs who are committed to contributing to Harlem’s long-term success with experienced technical assistance and business consulting services.

Created by President Clinton in 2002, the SBI ensures that both small business owners who have served their communities for decades and aspiring entrepreneurs who want to make a new contribution can compete and succeed in the increasingly competitive urban marketplace. “Harlem's small business owners and entrepreneurs have always been the backbone of this community,” said President Clinton. “I am committed to ensuring that they have the tools and support they need to compete – and succeed.”

Working through the Clinton Foundation, teams of management consultants from Booz Allen Hamilton, business students from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and experienced professionals from other partner organizations work closely with SBI participants over the course of 12-14 months to identify critical challenges and new opportunities, and to create and implement solutions. Teams work with businesses on issues such as accounting and financial management, marketing, information technology, human resources and organizational management, operational management, and general business strategy.
