Press Release: Earth Day Announcement at the Clinton Center
The Clinton Presidential Center partnered with the Arkansas Earth Day Foundation in presenting the state's largest Earth Day festival ever. More than 7,500 people enjoyed this year's event, which included over 100 booths and three entertainment stages.
The Arkansas Earth Day Celebration in Little Rock also featured “green tours” of the Clinton Library and nearby Heifer International to highlight the environmentally friendly aspects of both buildings.
The Center's Deputy Executive Director, Lena Moore, read a letter from President Clinton announcing that the Center will will seek platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). A panel discussion with the USGBC and the Clinton Foundation's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) team followed the announcement.
In order to further reduce the Center's environmental footprint and achieve the USGBC's highest certification, the Center will be developing high performance operations to dramatically lower energy and water usage, minimizing ongoing waste generation, and creating an even healthier and more comfortable indoor environment for both employees and visitors. Among the green strategies to be showcased are a new “green roof” and the use of renewable energy.
The Clinton Center and Park is already the first LEED-certified presidential library, having received a Silver rating for its use of sustainable buildings with state-of-the-art water-conservation systems, energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality. Specially-designed glass is insulated and glazed to reduce heat gain, and the library’s landscaping is designed to reduce heat zones and provide open spaces. Other environmentally-friendly features include radiant heating, solar panels, access to public transportation, electric vehicle charging stations, and bicycle racks.
