Press Release: Paris Goes Green with the Clinton Climate Initiative
More than 600 primary and kindergarten schools in Paris will receive energy makeovers to reduce their energy consumption through cooperation between the Clinton Climate Initiative and the City of Paris, President Clinton announced on Friday, October 5, in Paris.
By the end of 2007, an initial group of 100 schools will undergo a mapping of their energy consumption to see where significant improvements can be made. In 2008, contractors will make upgrades and install energy-efficient products, which may include changes to the heating and cooling systems, ventilation, lighting fixtures and other infrastructure. These improvements – called retrofits – will be financially supported by the money the city will save from the reduced energy costs.
The City of Paris is one of the cities working in conjunction with CCI's Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program to make energy-saving improvements to buildings. The City of Paris recently adopted a new Climate Strategy, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption 30% below 2004 levels city-wide by the year 2020.
