Press Release: President Clinton Receives Four Freedoms Medal at FDR Presidential Library

President Bill Clinton received the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute’s Four Freedoms Medal at the FDR presidential library today. Clinton received the honor for his leadership, approach to government as a commitment that held true to the ideals of FDR and the New Deal.
“I'm honored to receive this year's Four Freedoms Medal,” said Clinton. “The character, strength, and ideals espoused by President Roosevelt have been guiding principles for me throughout my life, especially during my presidency. President Roosevelt’s unyielding dedication to making this country a better place is an inspiration for us all.”
The freedom medals are given each year to those whose words and deeds are examples of the four freedoms essential to democracy that FDR proclaimed in his 1941 address. President Clinton is this year’s overall medal winner. This year’s other freedom medal winners include: Tom Brokaw for Freedom of Speech and Expression; Cornel West for the Freedom of Worship Award; Marsha Evans for the Freedom from Want; and Tom Kean and Lee Hamilton are sharing this year's Freedom from Fear medal. Past winners include: Former Presidents Truman, Kennedy and Carter.
