Press Release: President Clinton, Top Professional and College Athletes, Celebrity-Activists, and Government Officials to Join More than 1,000 CGI U Students at Service Project to Improve Homeless Trust
Service Project Will Conclude Third Annual Clinton Global Initiative University Meeting Taking Place at University of Miami
Miami, FL – On the final day of the 2010 Clinton Global Initiative University meeting, more than 1,000 students will join top athletes, celebrities, and government officials to take part in a wide range of community service activities at The Homestead Air Base at the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust’s Homestead complex. This is a community of approximately 500 formerly homeless individuals and families. The complex is comprised of a full-service homeless assistance center which provides on-site health and dental care, a Head Start school program, case management, housing for U.S. veterans, transitional housing and a dog kennel.
Attendees will rehabilitate existing facilities and grounds to help prepare for the Trust’s upcoming expansion, which will include the addition of 145 permanent housing units, an organic nursery, and a farmers’ market. The Homeless Trust’s expanded facility will serve as a cutting-edge national model for homeless assistance, affordable housing, and micro-enterprise.
