Press Release: Presidents Bush and Clinton to Receive Liberty Medal at National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center announced today that Presidents George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton will be awarded with the 2006 Liberty Medal on Thursday, October 5, 2006. The Liberty Medal is awarded annually to an individual, individuals or organization that “demonstrated leadership and vision in the pursuit of liberty of conscience or freedom from oppression, ignorance, or deprivation.” Presidents Bush and Clinton are credited with raising more than $1 billion to support disaster relief and recovery organizations.

Past winners include: Viktor Yushchenko, Hamid Karzai, Sandra Day O'Connor, Colin Powell, Kofi Annan, Dr. James Watson/Dr. Francis Crick, Kim Dae Jung, Senator George J. Mitchell, CNN International, King Hussein I of Jordan/Shimon Peres, Sadako Ogata, Václav Havel, F.W. de Klerk, Thurgood Marshall, Oscar Arias, Jimmy Carter, and Lech Walesa.
