Statement: Death of Jane Engelhard

Hillary and I are very saddened by the passing of Jane Engelhard, whose generous spirit and charitable works define a life of extraordinary breadth and accomplishment. We are especially grateful for Mrs. Engelhard's many contributions to the White House, from her restoration work with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to her donation of a beautiful Christmas creche made in Naples in the 18th Century, which has been displayed in the East Room during the holiday season. Her many donations to museums and other cultural institutions leave a legacy that will enrich the lives of people for years to come. We offer our prayers for her family and many friends at this difficult time.
