Statement: Passing of King Fahd

Hillary and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of King Fahd and we send our condolences to his family and the people of Saudi Arabia. He was a strong leader with vision and we had a good relationship. I am grateful for the leadership he provided throughout a tumultuous time in the Middle East, and especially for the support he gave to my efforts to stop ethnic cleansing in Bosnia. His steady hand played a vital role through a challenging time in US-Saudi relations. I am confident that we will be able to address future challenges in a vigorous, honest, and positive fashion with King Abdullah on the throne.
