Statement: President Clinton Moved from Intensive Care Unit

Former President Bill Clinton was moved from the Intensive Care Unit this afternoon and returned to his hospital room, where he will continue to recuperate for the next several days. He has been sitting up in bed, and has walked across the room with assistance and sat in a chair, all signs of his continuing recovery since bypass surgery on Monday.

Well wishes continue to come in via his Foundation website (clintonfoundation.org) with more than 70,000 received to date. Also, in addition to bags of mail being received at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, hundreds of get well cards were delivered today to President Clinton’s Harlem office from AmeriCorps members around the country. AmeriCorps was created by President Clinton in 1994, and currently 75,000 young people are serving in AmeriCorps programs in communities throughout the United States. As part of the Clinton Foundation's mission to promote citizen service, President Clinton has been working with City Year and South African officials to inspire a similar program in that country.
