Statement: Secret Service Awards

The events of September 11th brought to our nation's attention how many heroes there are among us. Along with firefighters and police officers, United States Secret Service agents and other employees of the Service demonstrated their courage and dedication to duty.

We salute all those who are being honored today for displaying the highest degree of valor and courageousness in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks. We remain deeply saddened by the loss of Master Special Officer Craig Miller, and our prayers are with his family and friends. We know the awards presented today will pay tribute not only to the distinguished service of all who receive them, but to the spirit represented by Craig Miller — a spirit that embodies a deep commitment to honor and country.

We send our best wishes and extend our gratitude to all those being honored here today.
