The CGI Community Responding to Flooding in Alaska and Mexico: How You Can Help

In the last few weeks, both Alaska and Mexico have experienced devastating flooding.

Across western Alaska, communities are reeling from catastrophic flooding triggered by the remnants of Typhoon Halong. The typhoon was likely fueled by unseasonably high temperatures this fall. Entire coastal villages have been impacted as homes have been destroyed and people have lost access to basic essentials. Thousands of locals have been evacuated and dozens of tribal nations have declared a state of emergency as communities have limited access to water, power, transportation, and food supplies. As many areas remain inaccessible, a broad coalition of nonprofit organizations, tribal leaders, and donors has rallied to provide urgent relief and long-term recovery. Given the timing of the flooding, and how remote the affected areas are, most of the rebuilding won’t be able to begin until spring 2026.

As a result of Tropical Storm Raymond, areas of central Mexico have been ravaged by heavy rains, destroying more than 100,000 homes. This comes following reports of 2025 being one of the rainiest years in Mexico’s history. While search and rescue continue, at least 70 people have died with dozens more missing. Access to 300 villages have been cut off and flooding has made it even harder to reach already isolated communities.

Below are some ways the CGI community is helping communities throughout Alaska and Mexico, and how you can too.

Alaska

Airlink

Airlink is coordinating emergency aid including search and rescue, hygiene kits, and medical supplies in Alaska. With no road access to major cities, survivors are relying on air transport for food, water, and shelter. The organization is working with airline and nonprofit partners to overcome logistical barriers and deliver life-saving support.

Alaska Community Foundation

The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF) has launched the Western Alaska Disaster Response Fund to support communities hit by the recent storms and flooding.

The fund, developed in partnership with regional and Alaska Native organizations, provides immediate relief and long-term recovery for villages across the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Bering Strait, and Northwest Arctic. With homes and infrastructure severely damaged and winter approaching, the fund is prioritizing locally directed aid for housing repairs, essential supplies, and community resilience planning.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is providing emergency relief to the thousands of residents who have been displaced after their homes were destroyed or swept away during the flooding. Red Cross disaster teams are coordinating airlifts, opening shelters in Anchorage and Bethel, and delivering food, water, and emergency supplies as winter approaches.

CORE – Community Organized Relief Effort

CORE has deployed a response team to deliver essential supplies and support displaced families. CORE aims to fill in gaps after conducting a rapid needs assessment. By working with local partners, the organization will provide critical resources to communities that have lost homes, power, and clean water across some of Alaska’s most remote and climate-vulnerable regions.

Direct Relief

Direct Relief has been sending medical and financial assistance to Alaska since the flooding, as it has done for years. Additionally, the organization has been specifically providing personal care items and medic packs to Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC), with a supplemental $50,000 to support emergency response costs. Direct Relief will continue to support Alaska as it recovers.

World Central Kitchen

World Central Kitchen is responding to the October 2025 typhoon flooding in Alaska after previously responding to storm recovery in 2022. The team is delivering dry goods and food to the impacted communities.

Mexico

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) is assessing urgent needs in Mexico following the catastrophic flooding and landslides.

CDP’s Global Recovery Fund is aiding the survivors sheltering in damaged buildings or open areas, who have limited access to clean water, electricity, and health services. Non-food items such as blankets and hygiene kits are urgently needed. Local aid efforts are underway, but many communities remain isolated and without support.

Direct Relief

Direct Relief teams report that with blocked roads in Mexico, overwhelmed health systems are leaving many communities without access to care. The organization has delivered emergency medical supplies, including antibiotics, chronic disease medications, and wound care kits to federal responders and local nonprofits. With rising risks of waterborne and mosquito-borne diseases, $25,000 in emergency funds has been deployed to support urgent health needs in underserved areas.

World Central Kitchen

World Central Kitchen arrived in Mexico and quickly started serving meals thereafter. The organization is working with local teams on the ground to best support and will continue to monitor the situation.
