Read to Lead: Dinosaurs

The Clinton Presidential Center’s Read to Lead Series is all about helping young learners become great readers, leaders, and active citizens. We will explore some interesting topics, like how to be a good member of your community and learn more about yourself and the culture and history of our neighbors.

Join us in August as we read about dinosaurs in conjunction with our “Dinosaur Explorer” exhibit! You will get to listen to some great stories from some amazing books and even get the chance to make some accessible crafts and participate in music-making activities.

This enriching event is free to the public. Children attending the event may tour the Clinton Center’s exhibits, including “Dinosaur Explorer,” for free with a paid adult admission. Join us on August 5 for fun, learning, and celebration!

Book 1: “Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug” by Jonathan Stutzman

Tiny T. Rex has a HUGE problem. His friend Pointy needs cheering up and only a hug will do. But with his short stature and teeny T. Rex arms, is a hug impossible? Not if Tiny has anything to say about it! Join this plucky little dinosaur in his very first adventure, Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug—a warm and funny picture book that proves the best hugs come from the biggest hearts.

Book 2: “How Do Dinosaurs Play with Their Friends?” by Jane Yolen

What if a dinosaur’s friends come to play? Does he mope, does he pout if he can’t get his way? Does he hide all his dump trucks, refusing to share? Does he throw his friends’ coloring books up in the air? Time and time again, children are told to “play nice.” This brilliantly illustrated board book is packed with rhymes that will teach children how. Mark Teague’s laugh-aloud illustrations, along with Jane Yolen’s playful text, will show children that “playing nice” can be easy and fun.
