Commitment to Action

Children's Safe Drinking Water

Commitment by

Procter & Gamble

In 2006, P&G committed to providing 35 million liters of safe drinking water to more than one million African children. Efforts focused on meeting the water and sanitation needs of schools in the developing world, particularly through the provision of safe drinking water and hygiene education. In addition, social marketing and community-based outreach provided an additional 100 million liters of safe drinking water.
P&G joined with PSI, a social marketing firm, and several other groups in an effort to bring a sustainable and scalable intervention to the clinically proven approach of household water treatment.
P&G provided funding and materials to expand the program to 240,000 children over two years, which became a new commitment in 2007.
