Palantir commits to improving disaster response efforts by providing software and analytical support to better mobilize responders and resources to natural and other disasters. The commitment will offer a platform for collaboration among disaster response organizations so they can efficiently allocate limited resources. This will entail collecting information, organizing the information in a way that is accessible and intuitive, and then empowering analysts to leverage the information to make better decisions.
Palantir engineers will adapt Palantir's software to import relevant public data sources into the software such as census information, CDC chronic disease densities, FEMA Flood Zones and Evacuation Routes, real-time NOAA Weather, satellite imagery, 311 call logs, and electrical power status reports. Furthermore, locations and statuses of hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and shelters will be integrated. Lastly, engineers will customize Palantir Mobile to handle response workflows such as conducting structure assessments, requesting medicines, or reporting job completions.
Partner organizations will play an important role. Palantir will provide strategic support to organizations working closely with local and federal governments within the United States as well as with relief organizations that have a global reach. For example, Palantir will continue to train and equip Team Rubicon and Direct Relief staff and volunteers to deploy Palantir's software on the ground in areas affected by disasters.
Palantir will work with Direct Relief to improve the distribution of medical supplies, hurricane preparedness packs, and financial support to improve the resilience of vulnerable communities in the United States. Improvement of the health of chronically ill patients at community health centers will help to form the basis of disaster response efforts by identifying ongoing public health needs, determining and scaling critical gaps in health systems, establishing relationships nationally, vetting trusted partners, and building efficient and reliable logistical channels for medical material aid.
Beyond the partnership with Direct Relief and Team Rubicon, Palantir also commits to partnering with businesses and organizations that can assist in providing additional necessary hardware, technology, and services to support and supplement Palantir's donations of software, hardware and engineering expertise. Palantir will also continue to commit its most valuable resource to disaster relief efforts : the data scientist. Palantir commits to deploying engineers and data scientists as a new resource in the supply chain of disaster relief efforts in order to expedite the delivery and effectiveness of relief.
Palantir has already begun implementing its commitment to assisting in the efficient mobilization of disaster relief efforts and will continue to deploy its talent, resources and technology to support the existing efforts of partners Team Rubicon and Direct Relief as well as other relief-focused organizations.

Crisis or disaster response is fundamentally about resource allocation. It is about knowing what supplies are available, where they are needed most, and then efficiently mobilizing the labor, water, food, medicines, and shelter to deliver relief to those that are most in need.
Response organizations face information gaps, difficulties with logistics, communication barriers, and other significant challenges when they attempt to deliver relief to those affected by catastrophes. A common operating picture that is powered by the collection, fusion, and sharing of many data sources would radically improve crisis mitigation and response.
The Unite States has sustained 144 weather/climate disasters since 1980 where overall damages/costs reached or exceeded $1 billion, including 11 disasters in 2012. Hurricane Sandy, the largest disaster of 2012, proved that high quality data analysis technology, built by Palantir Technologies, was able to harness a sea of goodwill and focus it where needed most.
Palantir is seeking partners with server, computer, satellite, and mobile phone resources who will be able to assist in maximizing communications in low-connectivity environments. Palantir is also looking to partner with data providers to have better access to relevant real-time data such as weather, traffic, satellite imagery, etc. Furthermore, an iteratively expanding network of relief-focused partners is desired.
Palantir is offering financial resources, hardware, software, talent resources and needed supplies to the existing efforts of Team Rubicon and Direct Relief, with the intent to expand the partnership to other relief-focused organizations to build a sum greater than the parts.
