Leadership Launch: 1GOAL World Cup Education Campaign

Commitment by

Rania Al Abdullah

In 2009, The 1GOAL campaign leadership committed to launch the 1GOAL: Education for All awareness raising campaign, bringing together humanitarian, government, private sector, and NGO leaders in an unprecedented effort to make the lasting legacy of the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa access to education for all children. By working with the football world and using the first ever FIFA World Cup held in Africa as the focal point, 1GOAL uses events and media campaigns to embed education within the public conscience in order to effect political change worldwide.
Currently, 1GOAL is working on a national campaign level and is directing efforts to achieve specific targets in priority countries. This includes its focus on Nigeria's national elections, as well as using the Women's World Cup in 2011 as a space to consider how national campaigns can make an impact on achieving change for women and girls.
