Commitment to Action

Matter to a Million

Commitment by

Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation, Kiva.Org

In 2013, the HP Company Foundation committed to launching a five-year partnership with Kiva, by giving each of its approximately 300,000 employees worldwide a $25 Kiva Card to make a loan to a borrower in one of the countries where Kiva operates. HP employees will then have the opportunity to lend that $25 to a borrower of their choice on Kiva.org. With a 99 percent average repayment rate on Kiva.org, the HP Company Foundation will continue to offer new $25 Kiva Cards to HP employees every year for five years, enabling these employees to lend multiple times, impacting the lives of tens of thousands of borrowers. This large-scale employee engagement commitment allows for an unprecedented number of individuals to participate in this person-to-person support for economic development at one time, using Kiva's unique technology platform that circumvents cultural, linguistic, social, and economic barriers.
