To achieve the goals of America 2020, Operation HOPE will work with a number of partners, including public school systems, financial institutions, community organizations, and individual volunteers, role models and mentors.
Specifically, through this Commitment, Operation HOPE will:
-Secure pledges from seven school districts across the U.S. to roll out the Gallup HOPE Index to their students and participate in Project 5117. HOPE will leverage the existing partnership with Denver Public Schools to recruit other school districts to get involved.
-Engage 100 schools to become HOPE Business in a Box Academies, working towards the Project 5117 goal of reaching five million kids with financial literacy and HBIAB entrepreneurship programs. Working with its existing school network as well as new schools that will come from new school district relationships, Operation HOPE will engage them as HBIAB Academies, bringing financial literacy to students across the U.S.
-Recruit and train 5,000 HBIAB business role models. HOPE will offer this new volunteer opportunity to its existing HOPE Corps members, as well as work with partner financial institutions to recruit employees to serve as business role models.
-Recruit, train and deploy 1,000 financial inclusion volunteers. HOPE will work with partner financial institutions to recruit volunteers in teaching financial literacy and entrepreneurship programs to students.
-Gain commitments for 25 new HOPE Inside locations. HOPE will leverage the existing $1,000,000 commitment from Sun Trust Bank as a leader in their field to recruit additional financial institutions for HOPE Inside.
-Partner with 25 community based organizations that can implement and further the work of HOPE's 700 Credit Score community program. HOPE will partner with other credit counseling organizations to raise the credit score in our communities to 700.
HOPE will market 5117 partnership opportunities through various channels, such as online, print, and social media. HOPE is also creating an online portal on its website for organizations to submit their partnership opportunities. Operation HOPE will then work with the individuals, companies, and organizations to implement these opportunities.
HOPE will continue to work with relationships we have developed in target school districts located in its current footprint. Leveraging those, we will also begin outreach as well on new markets across the US.
Operation HOPE will host a Global Financial Dignity Summit, where more than 1,000 delegates will convene with a mission that is focused on the broader issue of financial inclusion and the economic empowerment of the poor and the underserved. At the summit, HOPE will announce this commitment publicly, and utilize the convening to recruit additional 5117 partners.
December 2013 - February 2014
HOPE will secure a national pro-bono advertising partner to design and implement a national campaign for volunteer recruitment in December. The online campaign, primarily social media, for volunteer recruitment will run January-February 2014.
January - March 2014
HOPE will be meeting with school districts across the US regarding Project 5117 and recruiting school districts to get involved.
January - April 2014
HOPE will meet with schools within the committed school districts regarding Project 5117 and the Gallup HOPE Index. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss implementation plan with their school, now that the school district has given the green light.
HOPE will meet with executives from the private, public, and financial services regulatory sectors to secure financial support and partnership commitments for HOPE Inside. HOPE will also host several one-on-one and group presentations for senior executives throughout the U.S.
April 2014 - June 2014
HOPE will continue to market and recruit for partners, such as financial institutions, credit unions, as well as others from both the public and private sector, of Project 5117. During these months, HOPE will devise implementation plan with committed partners and begin execution for those that are ready.
American 2020 is a national campaign, by Operation HOPE, designed to execute the Project 5117 goals, by December 31, 2020, that any company, municipality, financial institution, and individual can join to advance this financial inclusion initiative. Operation HOPE is working to expand upon its 21 years of expertise in financial inclusion to scale up its efforts, working in both existing and new markets, to reach nearly 10 million youth and adults by the year 2020.
Operation HOPE is already working with Gallup, Sun Trust, Denver Public Schools, and Popular Community Bank as partners to advance some of the 5117 goals. Project 5117 includes several initiatives, chiefly HOPE Business In A Box and HOPE Inside.
By 2020, Project 5117 expects to achieve the following objectives:
-Five million youth empowered with a new level of financial literacy through a unique financial dignity education program, which has already proven successful in 3,500 schools across the country.
-One million of these empowered youth will have an opportunity to become future entrepreneurs and local job creators through HOPE 'Business In A Box' (HBIAB) Academies, supported by a 100-year partnership with the Gallup Organization. This effort powerfully reconnects education with aspiration in the lives of youth. By 2020, 2,000 HOPE Business In A Box Academies are planned across the nation, in both urban and rural communities. Since 1996, HOPE's Banking on Our Future (BOOF) program has educated youth on financial literacy and empowerment, and now HBIAB directly addresses financial dignity, youth economic energy and the spirit of entrepreneurship. HBIAB provides youth with the training and access to funds necessary to create their own business. The program also educates students on the reality of business competition and empowers them with the understanding that there is more to creating a business than coming up with an idea and selling it. And lastly, youth gain a sense of ownership and personal accountability from starting a business through HBIAB.
-1,000 first-ever bottoms up branch banks (empowerment centers) deployed throughout America (HOPE Inside) and 5,000 certified locations (HOPE Inside +). HOPE Inside serves as a draw for financial institutions, retail stores, supermarkets, local municipalities, community-based organizations and shopping centers by attracting customers and members who know they can take care of their shopping, banking or other service needs and meet with HOPE counselors for their personal financial needs, all in one location.
-Seven hundred Credit Score Communities achieved through the expansion of HOPE Inside and HOPE Inside+ where services such as credit counseling, credit and money management education, individual and group counseling; and debt management are provided.
While the goals are national, Operation HOPE will begin its efforts within cities it already has a footprint, including Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City and Oakland. HOPE will expand to additional cities to achieve its objectives.
HOPE Inside has taken many of the lessons learned by the long-running HOPE Financial Dignity Centers and applied them to positively changing the way a community can operate and survive and it represents the best viable and sustainable business model for future HOPE Centers nationwide. This innovative cost efficient strategy will allow HOPE to serve more people, in more places, by bringing financial empowerment and financial dignity back into the community.
