Afforestation Environmental Project (10 Million Saplings)
In 2008, Konya Sugar Industry and Commerce, Ltd. committed to planting 10 million trees in the Meadle Anatolia region of Turkey by 2013. This afforestation (conversion of arid field into forest) project will decrease soil and wind erosion, carbon dioxide emissions, and the number of destructive insects in the area. The project is aimed at addressing the impacts of global warming and droughts, and at creating a more environmentally concious community environmentally concious community. The project is expected to be completed by 2013, with 10 million trees planted over 11,000 hectares of land.
