Lemnis is currently in the process of selecting three types of partners for implementation of the project. Distribution partners must be able to cover large geographical areas and can include utilities, large retailers or other companies that reach millions of people through a billing relationship. Lemnis is also looking for an environmental partner that would be able to underline the positive impact the lightbulbs will have on the environment. Finally, they are also seeking financial partners to finance the upfront program for the distributors (retailers or utilities).
Lemnis is also currently tailoring their marketing and execution plan for the program, which they are running in Europe, for the USA launch. Ultimately, final decisions must be made in conjunction with their partners, once selected.
- Partnerships will be closed between October-December 2009..
- Finalize launch January 1st, 2010.
- The program will be scaled every quarter, based on the success of the previous quarter. Lightbulbs will be distributed in tranches, one million Pharox bulbs in Q1, 2 million Pharox in Q2, 3 million Pharox in Q3, and 4 million Pharox in Q4.
Climate change has become a globally recognized problem, but the challenge can seem so daunting to the average consumer that most do not know where to start. Energy efficiency is the low hanging fruit of all the necessary 'green' actions: it reduces greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere in the best way possible, by avoiding those emissions in the first place.
Light plays such a key role in our lives (extending the day, providing safe transport at night, and even powering screens for televisions and computers).
Lemnis lighting will demonstrate that making a big contribution can be as easy as flicking a switch when consumers use energy efficient lighting solutions. We hope to empower people to make small, everyday changes that - together - take a huge step forward in solving the problem of climate change.
Together with environmental partner WWF, distribution partners and sponsored by the DOEN Foundation / Lottery Group, Lemnis is currently distributing 2.5 million Pharox LED bulbs in Europe using the same model it seeks to scale in the USA in 2010.
Lemnis has also distributed its products through an innovative model with a Netherlands based utility: in this case, utility customers received Pharox light bulbs with no out-of-pocket payment and repaid the Pharox bulbs through the savings on their utility bill. The consumer saves money from day one and shares those savings with the utility so the utility can recoup its investment in the Pharox bulbs. Everybody wins and Lemnis has created a sustainable business model that can be replicated and scaled.
