Working with PIH to Improve Education in Haiti
In 2008, Digicel Foundation Haiti and Partners in Health (PIH), known in Haiti as Zanmi Lasante (ZL), joined forces to support the provision of high quality primary care education in the Central Plateau of Haiti. Together, they are supporting the development and operation of 30 local primary schools. Programs include school health, feeding programs, quality enhancement, infrastructure, and family support. In 2008, they provided 10,116 students with a daily hot lunch. In the wake of the January 12th earthquake and the significant exodus of the Haitian population from Port-au-Prince to the areas where PIH/ZL works, we expect to see these numbers increase in the coming months. The Digicel Foundation supported these projects in 2008 with financial support of $1,000,000.
