To achieve this goal, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation (VPK) will engage in 3 main activities:
Define fields of study. The VPF will work to identify the fields which are extremely important for the development of Ukraine in 2010-2020. The tentative list of fields of study includes the following: agriculture, law, international relations, engineering and environmental studies. This research will be completed in October 2008.
Finalize negotiations and sign direct partnership agreements with the top universities of the world. Students will apply to the sniversities for Master's programs in fields which are crucial for Ukraine's further development. VPK is currently looking for partner universities in the US and believe that 20 to 30 students will be able to start their studies in September 2009.
Build awareness and nationwide competition. This program will be open for all students who want to get a Master's degree abroad. The nationwide competition will begin in September 2009.
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation (VPF) commits to training a new generation of future Ukrainian leaders and professionals in order to modernize Ukraine and meet the challenges of the 21st century. Within the next 5 years, the foundation will provide 500 Master's fellowships to young talented Ukrainians to study abroad. They will foster their education and experience in top-level worldwide universities, build mutual understanding and come back to Ukraine to develop the country according to international best practices. They will pay special attention to the following strategic fields: agriculture, law, international relations, engineering and environmental studies.
This is the first time such a large philanthropic international educational program is engaged in Ukraine. The estimated cost of this commitment is ,000,000. They hope to open this opportunity to those who are talented but wouldn't have chance otherwise.
VPF is looking for universities ready to offer a program in the areas of importance for Ukraine. VPF would expect from universities willing to offer the help needed to students in adjusting to the new environment, provide Ukrainian students opportunity to participate in the research and internships.
VPF is interested in building cooperation with the academic and business groups able to help them to determine the best students and build public awareness for the benefit of the program. VPF would like to build cooperation with the groups of people interested in co-funding this initiative.
