Strengthening Health Systems to Address Non-Communicable Diseases

Hosted at American Cancer Society's Offices in New York City, New York

Building on the prior day’s session, “Prevention and Resilience: Multi-Sector Investments in Global Health,” this session will focus specifically on health system strengthening to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Since 2005, CGI members have made nearly 60 Commitments to Action to prevent and treat NCDs, and in doing so, are inherently building capacity for more resilient health systems. Of these commitments, many utilize a health systems approach to disease prevention and management in low- and middle-income countries and leverage public-private partnerships in these efforts. Building off of existing work in the field, participants in this session will explore opportunities to develop partnerships that deliver equitable care and discuss ways to integrate NCDs into existing health programs.

• Explore how to build the health workforce, while strengthening supply chains and improving access to commodities and essential medications
• Engage in dialogue and consultation with a panel of experts on new CGI Commitment to Action ideas and challenges to implementing commitments in this space
